What Is Special Needs?

Posted on: February 23rd, 2012 by agci

We heard an interesting comment the other day from a family at an adoption fair.  When asked if they would consider adopting a special needs child, they said “no, that’s something our family is not equipped to handle.” But when asked if they could adopt a child with a correctable cleft lip and palate, they replied “absolutely, that’s not a special need!” (more…)

Taiwan – Project Completed!

By Kate McDodson, Taiwan Case Manager Today was another wonderful day! We stared off with church which the pastor and other members had taken the time to translate the song lyrics and even the notes of the sermon to English so that we could better follow along.  We were introduced to the congregation and everyone prayed for us, the work we had done, and the home that we had completed. It was a touching service to be a part of and it was fun to get an opportunity to see all the prayer that is lifted on the Taiwan side for this work that we do. (more…)

The house is done! We spent the morning doing the final touch ups and clean up. We got the furniture ordered for the main room, we have cushions ordered for the counseling room, and the curtains have been chosen!! This place really looks like a home! Again I
can’t say enough about how wonderful this group of women have been to work alongside of.

We went to a Paiwan aboriginal restaurant today for lunch. The food was amazing!! It was very authentic food to the Paiwan tribe  – my favorite was the sticky rice and pork wrapped and cooked in a banana leaf. After lunch we were able to go to a village and see more of life in Taiwan. It was interesting to hear from them about aborigine culture in Taiwan. (more…)

The paint is on the walls, the beds have shown up and were made, rooms have been arranged – this place is really starting to look like a home. I walked through the home today and was honestly in tears at how beautiful it all was. I have been so impressed with the team that is here. They have been such an honor and joy to work with – they worked tirelessly for days to complete this task. The Taiwan staff have all laughed and said how they wanted to move into the Promise of Life home. (more…)

Yesterday the team really just focused on the home, we got there early and just worked through the whole day. The team is so dedicated and committed to making Promise of Life absolutely beautiful. They have spent hours painting and now even stenciling! Each time one of our Taiwan staff walk through the home they are in awe of the work, love, and effort that is put into each room. The team accomplished all my goals for the day and we are now even starting to paint rooms we did not expect we would have had time to do! (more…)

On Monday we were able to be a part of the famous Lantern Festival in Ping Shi. It was one of the most BEAUTIFUL and remarkable experiences I have ever had. We let off lanterns for AGCI and Promise of Life and watched them float into the sky along with 1,000 other lanterns, it was so beautiful. The annual Lantern Festival in Taiwan is the second largest festival in the world, with over 100,000 people in Ping Shi enjoying the show! (more…)
