He was sent to the Beijing University No1 Hospital in May 2006 and had surgeries to correct the secondary megacolon, a perineal anoplasty, a right indirect inguinal hernia and high ligation of hernial sac. His hearing and eyesight are normal. He is able to join the kids of his age in a variety of activities though his language expression is not that good. He is not able to control his bowel movements. He was found at Xinhe Hospital in January 2003 and was reported to police. He was confirmed to be abandoned and brought to the orphanage. His birth date was estimated to be in December 2002 by the doctor at the orphanage after an initial exam. He was initially diagnosed with a missing right ear and stricture of anus. He was admitted to the First Hospital of Peking University in May 2006. At that time he was diagnosed with congenital imperforated anus, recto-skin fistula, secondary megacolon, indirect inguinal hernia on the right and deformed right ear. In June 2006 he underwent surgery to remove the secondary megacolon plus anoplasty and high ligation of hernia sac were performed. The surgery was successful. Dilation of anus began two weeks after the surgery and was continued for 6 months. The examination of his ears showed a delayed conduction of the left auditory pathway of the lower brainstem and delayed conduction of right auditory pathway of peripheral part and lower brainstem. A CT examination of the temples showed a smaller right ear, atresia of the right external auditory canal, developmental deformity of right middle ear, otitis media of the left ear, a bony herniation of the right petrous bone and anterior temporal bone extending to the middle cranial fossa. He is described as timid and shy. He is close to his caretakers. At three years old he weighed 22 pounds, was 31.5 inches tall, his head circumference was 18.1 inches and his chest circumference was 20.4 inches. He is described as developmentally delayed. At three years old he was walking, running, feeding himself with a spoon, holding a pen and scribbling, and using his thumb and index finger freely. He can build with blocks, play ball and likes toy cars. He turns the pages in a book. He is slow to warm up in a new environment and is shy with strangers. He enjoys watching television.
