This precious little girl was born in November 2000 in a large city in Bulgaria. At birth she was diagnosed with Spina Bifida, a birth defect that impacts the spinal chord and cavity. Shortly after, her parents abandoned her to be raised in a Home for Medical and Social Childcare. Since then she has received several surgeries to help correct her medical condition and, through it all, has shown such resilience and courage and grace. Despite being pictured in a wheel chair, the director of her orphanage states that now that the surgery on her foot is complete, she is quite an active little girl. She can walk up and down the stairs and move independently, with only the use of braces or splints to help her weakened limbs. Now this precious girl can even ride her bike without support!
Without the loving care of a devoted mother or the one-on-one attention of a caring father, her life is incomplete. But, one look at her bright and engaging little face, you can tell that her future could be limitless. She is described by her caretakers as incredible bright and an excellent pupil and doctors confirmed that her mental development is normal for her age. She is a sweet and emotional little girl, sensitive to those around her and always looking out for others needs. This little girl needs someone who can look after her needs, too. She has suffered with chronic infections of her bladder and kidneys and, at this time, requires assistance with elimination. Imagine this little girl in your life. Imagine doing all of her favorite things—playing dolls with her on the living room floor, drawing a picture at the table, putting puzzles together on game night. Her caretakers now say that, while she often plays by herself, her favorite thing to do is to talk to the adults in her life. The topic of conversation is almost always the same. She asks them questions and wants to know more about their families. The topic of conversation, they say, is almost always the same. Although there is little information about who she was, we do know for sure that this boy's mother made a difficult decision almost immediately after his birth in March of 2006. She decided she was unable to provide for him. Had she made a different choice, she might have watched her little boy grow up to astonish, amaze and inspire everyone around him.
He was born with multiple malformations in the maxillofacial region and extremities, which results in speech delays. The poor little guy required several surgeries as he grew but incredibly, despite this his physical and neuro-psychic development is completely normal for his age. He walks steadily, unassisted. He can climb up and down stairs, run well, throw a ball into a target and shows very well developed visual-motor coordination. It is unknown if he will require any additional treatment for his conditions. He is as active and engaging as any other four year old. He loves to leaf through the pages of a book and look at pictures. He loves to color, cut and paste things together. He tries to speak with a lot of words, which he connects in simple sentences. Although much of his speech is unintelligible due to the maxillofacial deformity, it doesn't stop him from singing all his favorite songs, performing the movements according to the lyrics. He can reproduce the melody perfectly! He is only missing one thing, a forever family. This he wants more than anything. If given the opportunity he will entertain all with his joyful personality. His reports say that he is thoughtful and inquisitive and is always asking questions about the world around him. He is strongly attached to his main caretaker. He is tender, caring and affectionate to younger children, as well as observant and initiative-taking. He wants to take part everywhere and in everything, there is no stopping him. He enjoys praise, and his little face brightens and shows happiness upon the appearance of familiar people. While he loves to play with a group of children, or with the caretakers in the home, he feels just as comfortable playing with his toys alone. This sweet little boy is only missing one thing—a forever family, the one thing he wants more than anything. He loves to play with his toy cars and musical toys are his favorite. Can you see him as a part of your family? He needs someone willing to step up in faith and claim him as their son. We are certain that the family who chooses to do this will discover not just how his life will be changed, but the incredible way their life will be impacted by this young boy's vibrant spirit and joy. Currently, little he is involved in a program called "Socialization of children and their preparation for family integration". In order to make this life changing decision to parent this little boy, your current children in the home must be at least ten months older than him. According to the country requirements, applicants must be between 23-55 years old and not currently on medication for mental illness. *Please see country criteria for complete requirements. This precious little guy was born in November, 2002. After a normal pregnancy and delivery he went home to live with his mother, where they lived together until he was four years old. Then his mother decided she could no longer provide the care that her little boy needed. Unemployed and making a living by collecting metal waste, she relinquished and released him to be adopted by a family. For the first two years he lived in a Bulgarian orphanage and then was moved to a group home, a more family-like environment, where he has been for the past two years.
According to his medical reports his physical development is normal and his mental development is only slightly delayed, typical for a child living in an orphanage. Additionally, his intellect and memory are normal, corresponding to his age. Unfortunately, he has difficulties with learning his letters and symbols. He struggles with his attention and concentration in school. Like a lot of little boys his age, he battles hyperactivity as well. And without the consistent support and one on one attention he needs, he continues to fall behind in school. Imagine how he could thrive here in your home, your family and with your love. He is an active little boy, emotional and sweet. He likes coloring books, with pictures he can color on his own. Right now his caregivers say he loves putting together puzzles and building with construction sets and games. If this child remains in Bulgaria as an orphan, it is clear where his life path could lead. But what if this sweet child is given the chance for a new life? What could he accomplish? Is your family ready to offer this child a life full of possibility? To give the gift of family to this little boy, your current children in the home must be at least ten months older than him. According to the country requirements, applicants must be between 23-55 years old and not currently on medication for mental illness. By Bulgarian law, we can only share photos and medical information with individual families upon request. Please let us know if you would like more information on this child. *Please see country criteria for complete requirements. In May of 2006 this sweet girl came into this world prematurely with moderate asphyxia and, just like that, her chances of living a normal life were gone. Like many premature infants, she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. And since her birth family couldn't meet her immediate medical needs, they relinquished her to a medical institution, after several weeks in the hospital.
Although she will always struggle with some degree of physical limitations, she has such incredible potential in this world. She is working with a multidisciplinary team to stimulate the delays in her neuropsychic development, and already has shown so much improvement! She is demonstrating excellent physical development, and although her general and fine motor skills are delayed, the staff at the orphanage say she is one determined little girl. She can walk and play around the house all by herself, moving around independently and comfortably. Also, this precious child is in a program specifically for children with mild mental delays and she is showing incredible promise. Her teachers say that during class she is interested and engaged, and that she especially loves any kind of music activity or game. She also loves to participate in roll plays or any activity where she gets to move around. Like any other four-year-old, she has her moments of frustration. When she can't communicate her needs clearly, she becomes disheartened. She reacts with displeasure at the sound of loud noises. But ultimately, she is a little girl who follows instructions and plays well with other children, or just by herself with her toys. Already this little girl has overcome much in her short life. When she gets attention from the adults in her home, like a hug, or someone offering to hold her hand, this beautiful little girl just glows. She is so ready to be loved. Imagine what a family could do to help this sweet and innocent little girl thrive. Imagine what joy this child could bring to the life of her new family. To move forward with an adoption for her, your current children in the home must be at least ten months older than her. According to the country requirements, applicants must be between 23-55 years old and not currently on medication for mental illness. About ten days before his birth in 2007, doctors learned this little boy had hydrocephaly and thankfully were able to place a shunt shortly thereafter. Unfortunately his parents were not able to provide him the long-term care he needed and within two weeks he was moved into an orphanage.
Hydrocephaly was not the only condition the little guy was faced with, he was also born with spina bifida which in his case means he has very restricted movement in his lower limbs. But these physical limitations do not define Ivan! He is a child with much promise and needs someone who can commit to conquering these challenges with him! This little boy has a very special relationship with the staff in the orphanage. He is fond of calling them "mom," even though he knows their proper names. His face lights up with happiness when he sees them. He is constantly adding new words to his vocabulary and loves to ask questions; he feels so much happiness just simply spending time with his caregivers. He is keenly aware of his surrounding and seeks out contact with his favorite people. They describe Ivan being a very social child, playing well with a variety of games and toys and behaving with the appropriate emotional responses. In short, this little, three year old is a delight! He can sit and crawl unassisted and can walk around in his little pram or buggy that has been adjusted especially for him. He is missing one kidney and so gets frequent bladder infections that are treated by the staff. Left to grow up in the institution it is unclear what kind of development he will be able to accomplish before he is forced to leave. What skills will he have to support himself if no one takes the time to teach him? He is a child with promise. If you are willing to love and cherish him, he will have the chance to thrive and you will have the chance to see all that he is capable of accomplishing with his life. If your heart has opened to this child and you would like to welcome him into your family, your current children in the home must be at least ten months older than him. According to the country requirements, applicants must be between 23-55 years old and not currently on medication for mental illness. This boy was born two weeks before Christmas, 2005, with all kinds of challenges to face from the very start of his life. His mother suffered severe epilepsy and so, despite the known risk of birth defects, was forced to take a medication called Depakine during her pregnancy. After a complicated cesarean section, the child did not go home with his mother but instead was sent to a Bulgarian institution to be raised by the orphanage just four days after Christmas.
His progress in the home was slow at first, given that he had to compete with the many other children living in the Home for Medical and Social childcare. Think of how that could have been different with the love and care of a family! During his first year alone the little guy was sent to the hospital five times for bronchitis and other orphanage related medical issues. Although this little boy will be five this December, his development is delayed in almost every sphere. He has an irregular head configuration and facial dysmorphism as a result of his birth defects. He is making progress every day, showing such potential, but in some areas his growth is stunted as much as two or three years. Although he is five years old, in some areas of development he appears more like two, three or four. Currently, the child is being raised with a group of healthy children and he adapts well to new situations. He is described as a follower of the rules and that he copes well to the requirements of his group. There are so many things that he is capable of doing. He runs and climbs and completes all the morning exercises with his class. When he is playing his use of the toys is appropriate to the intended purpose and he can duplicate observed actions. He joins with other children but can also play alone. He understands commands, can speak sentences and ask questions. He loves to play with his building blocks and construction cubes. He has a multidiscipline team working to provide sufficient stimulation for his motor and mental development. However, it is states on his medical and psychological report that he has the potential to achieve much better development if raised within a family environment. Imagine your family opening your arms to this child and seeing just how much he is capable of. Let him be your little miracle boy. If this is your son, your current children in the home must be at least ten months older than him. According to the country requirements, applicants must be between 23-55 years old and not currently on medication for mental illness. By Bulgarian law, we can only share photos and medical information with individual families upon request. This little boy was born late in the spring of 2005 to a mother who had previously given birth seven times and almost immediately upon entering this world, he encountered his first hardship. He was diagnosed with congenital pneumonia, the most common cause of death for infants worldwide. So for the first month of his life he found himself not in the arms of a mother, but in the wing of the hospital where his little body slowly recovered. Unfortunately his mother never came back for him and so he was placed in an orphanage.
According to the staff, the other children born to his same mother all had major speech problems that were later overcome as they grew older. It is no wonder then that this precious boy should share his sibling's struggles. Unfortunately, it wasn't until he was almost four years old that the little guy started receiving attention for his speech delays. And with no one in his life working to get him the support and resources he needed, his speech development is obviously delayed. According to reports, This child is physically healthy and everything a five year old should be. He runs, jumps, plays with toys and he catches and throws balls to other children. Although he struggles to communicate with those around him, it does not affect his sweet disposition. The caregivers in the orphanage say that he laughs and loves to give a high five to his favorite adults. He is snuggly and cuddly. Despite his tender heart, his struggle to understand and be understood means that he can be easily frustrated with himself and the other children. In fact most of the time, you see him playing by himself. His favorite caregiver states that it is like he is in his own little world sometimes. He prefers individual attention over group activities. At this time he cannot communicate to his caregivers in more than unintelligible sounds. But think of what he could do with a little love from a family! How will this child triumph over the limitations to his speech, without the one-one-one attention that only a parent could provide? How will he receive the help he needs living in a government institution? This little boy needs someone who has faith in his ability to overcome these obstacles, who acts as an advocate for his needs. Without that, his future is uncertain. With your love and dedication he could truly thrive and the world could open up for this precious Bulgarian orphan. If you feel that your family wants to step up and be his, your current children in the home must be at least ten months older than him. According to the country requirements, applicants must be between 23-55 years old and not currently on medication for mental illness.
