He gets along well with other children in the orphanage and loves to play. He has a good sense of direction and has on a few occasions returned from school on his own. His movements are well coordinated and on track for his age. He does have some mental and developmental delays; however, he is doing well and able to follow and effectively carry out commands. He understands the functions of various objects, locks and unlocks doors, never confuses his right and left shoe, waters flowers and is gentle with his toys. He likes to play by himself but also initiates games with other children. He has a harder time initiating contact if he feels others are not paying attention. He has a wonderfully creative imagination. If you ask him if you can have something that belongs to him, he will give it you willingly. He is expressive and displays emotions in an appropriate manner. With a loving and supportive family, this boy has incredible potential. He needs a family willing to patiently address his areas of growth and be open to using outside resources to support his development if necessary. A family that has parented children past his age would be an ideal match. We ask that no current children in the home be within 10 months of his age. This delightful sibling group is one of great livelihood and adventure; both children displaying great joy and activeness. The 7 year old girl is described as emotionally harmonious, cheerful and calm. She has a relatively strong confidence and stands out as a leader among her peers. She at times can become emotionally unstable in stressful situations. She communicates freely with adults and children and readily participates in group activities. One of her greatest strengths is her artistic aptitude. She finds deep satisfaction in helping others and is often looking for opportunities to serve others. The child is reported to be physically healthy, although she has a tendency to get sick often. Her development in most areas is on track and normal for her age. It appears she is behind in her speech development and has a poor vocabulary. She is currently seeing a speech therapist and has improved greatly under this treatment. The child attends kindergarten but has missed quite frequently due to illness. She continues to learn and is working on her alphabet and numbers. Her brother is 8 years old and enjoys an active lifestyle. He shows signs of slight mental delay primarily due to institutionalization. It is also reported that he suffers from epilepsy. For treatment of this condition, he participates in regular monitoring by a neurologist and takes daily medication to control his seizures. He can be a bit of a trouble maker and is described as aggressive at times with other children. With this knowledge we feel he would thrive best in a family with no other children his age. The children's mother is known. She is a single woman of 40 years who has been living with a man for 19 years. They have 12 children born to them, 9 of whom are being raised in the home. The mother abandoned the children because she was not in a position to raise them or provide the required care and social environment for their proper development. It was reported that the children are very sociable and have a strong desire to succeed. In a warm family environment both children could develop to their full potential. Please pray for these children as they wait for their forever family. Video of this child is available upon request.
