Adsue (Aah-dee-su) is about 11, and doesn't let his birth defect slow him down, whether playing sports or jumping up to his upper bunk at bedtime. Doctors have said his leg can be operated on, to be fitted with a prosthetic. Adsue is not currently living at Hannah's Hope, but will be able move there when a family is found for him. $5000 Brittany's Hope Grant and a $500 AGCI Grant toward his adoption.
Frehwonie (Fro-win-i) In October of 2006, on a trip to a northern province, our Directors met a wonderful, sweet-spirited girl around the age of 12. This girl, tall for an Ethiopian, has a huge heart, despite the circumstances she grew up in. With no family to call her own, AGCI brought her to Hannah's Hope. She is now in school, loves it and is doing well. She does suffer from minor seizures, but these do not impact her daily life. She understands she will have a harder time than most finding a forever family, but she is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be at Hannah's Hope. She is a blessing to everyone at HH and we are excited to help her find her family. $5,000 Brittany's Hope grant $500 AGCI grant
Getamesay (Geh-tah-meh-say ), who is 13, is a story of courage in the face of hard reality. His mother is dead and his father is dying of AIDS. Knowing that he is dying, the father's greatest wish is for his son to have a family who will love him. This young boy shows so much intelligence and has a huge heart. He is steadfastly determined to become a doctor when he grows up. As he says, "I want to help children who have lost their parents." Ganatmasi has completed school through the 8th grade (there are no schools in his region after that grade) and speaks some English. He is currently living with his father while he waits for God to bring him a family.$5000 Brittany's Hope Grant and a $500 AGCI Grant toward his adoption.
Teferie (The-feh-ri) hopes for a place at Hannah's Hope, but more than that, he hopes for a forever family. His parents have relinquished him and, right now, this 11 year-old lives in a government orphanage. Tefara, a charismatic, confident and smart boy, has taught himself English. He wants to come to America and study science. When our U.S. team visited, he asked to go back to America with them, and when told they could not take him, his eyes filled with tears. Yet he remained determined to have a positive outlook, despite the challenges in his life. He told our team that he "will be adopted and accomplish great things!" $1,000 Anonymous grant $5,000 Brittany's Hope grant $500 AGCI grant
Yami (Yam-mie) This amazing boy is approximately 7 years old although his listed birth date would say that he is younger (March 13, 2003). One of our Case Managers was able to be at Hannah's Hope when he came and was amazed to see how quickly he adjusted. He has become friends with many of the kids and is good with all ages. It is a possibility that Yami has Hepatitis B but to be sure, the prospective adoptive family will need to have his medicals evaluated by an international pediatrician. Despite this Yami appears very healthy and is a sweet young boy. He had been living with his grandmother after both of his parents passed away when he was younger - until his grandmother, who was getting older made the hard decision to have him placed with another family. She no longer had the resources to care for him. This is the most common reason for relinquishment in Ethiopia - the desire that the birth family relatives have to provide more for the children than they can possibly offer. We would love to share information and photos with any interested family - Yami has a wonderful smile that shows his love for life. |
